General Product installation

Please read the following carefully before installing the unit in your system – your unit may need to be reconfigured by your Linn retailer.

For further assistance, try our customer support page

General Speaker installation

We recommend that your Linn loudspeakers are unpacked, installed and adjusted by an authorised Linn retailer. To get the best from your Linn loudspeakers, it is important that they are positioned and levelled correctly.

Please note, in order to achieve the very best from your Linn loudspeakers, some adjustment may be required after positioning, levelling and connecting. See the Fine adjustment section.

As this is an Exakt speaker the initial setup must be performed with a Local Area Network that has Internet access. Otherwise Konfig cannot set the speaker channel, Speaker profile and Space Optimisation of these products

Subwoofer use in a Linn DS/DSM system

Exaktbox Sub

The Exaktbox Sub can only be used with Exakt speakers/Exaktbox(es).
If you only have speakers connected via analogue connections to the Linn DS/DS and try and also use the Exaktbox sub Config will only allow you to setup Space Optimisation+ on the Exaktbox Sub. You will not be able to use Space Optimisation on the analogue outputs with an Exaktbox and or Exakt speaker connected.

Non Exakt system

In Space Optimisation > Room Setup you can add "Additional Subwoofers"
This will allow you to add subwoofers into the Room and position them within the room. You can then Optimise and adjust the Room modes accordingly.

Networking components

For a list of some network components you can try, check HERE

Changing to a new router the Linn DS will no longer connect

Some new routers, such as Talk Talk, have network sockets that only support 1000-BaseT connections. Linn DS products support a maximum 100-BaseT connection.
Your PC laptop will work on this router socket as your PC will support 10/100/1000-BaseT connections. The simple solution or test is to add a low-cost network switch that supports 10/100/1000 Base-T connections, such as a Netgear GS205, between the router and the DS.

If you are using a BT Home Hub your BT Smart Hub is automatically set to Mode 1. This can cause some connectivity issue due to "Power saving" mode. We suggest that this is set to Wireless Mode 3

Fritzbox not seeing the Linn DS/DSM products

Fritzbox reported having issues with Apple broadcasts and losing connections.
This appear to be due to the Fritzbox monitoring the LAN sockets and shutting down
anything that is not active and going into Green (power saving) mode.
The manufacturer has reported the following fix:
1. Open a web browser and enter "fritz.box" into the address bar to open the router's
   configuration page
2. Go in to advanced/expert mode, rather than Wizard mode
3. Go to the "System > Energy Monitor > Settings" pane
4. Set the LAN port that the DS is plugged into to be "always active"
5. Click the "Apply" button

TECHNICOLOR TG799 not seeing Linn DS/DSM products

Technicolor firmware V18.1 does not see any Linn DS/DSM products. We suspect that your Internet Service Provider has recently upgraded your Router from V17.1 to V18.1.
Please contact your ISP and get them to revert the Technicolor Router back to Firmware V17.1

Checking internet connection consistency

If your Radio keeps muting and you have a Windows PC you can check how good your connection is to the internet using PingPlot.
This will be installed on your PC and can be used to "ping" your streaming server. Pingplot can be downloaded from github and run from command line or Shortcut. E.g. BBC test

"C:\Program Files (x86)\PingPlot\pingplot.exe" -p -H bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net -n 1 -f BBC_ping

If you have the Uri of the Radio streaming service, you can use this to check its connection.
At the end of your test time hit CTRL-C and this will show you a time related graph of the internet latency found by your PC.

Volume \ Unity Gain options

Can I turn off the Volume control in the DSI or DSM to make them source only

Yes in Konfig Volume options give you the full line level volume out. However this will disable the internal power amplifier for obvious reasons (No volume control)

Note: If you turn off the volume control this will also DISABLE any Exakt speaker or Exaktboxes that are connected to this Linn DSM.

What Linn PreAmplifiers can the DS products control?

Bute, Cara and Davaar software can control:-

  • Klimax Kontrol
  • Akurate Kontrol
  • Majik Kontrol
  • Majik-I
  • Kinos
  • Kisto
  • Unidisk SC
  • Classik Movie (from 2006 manufacture)
  • Classik Music (from 2008 manufacture)

Some of these products may need their software updated to allow the DS products to control them.

Earlier Linn pre-amplifiers cannot be controlled by the DS products.

An Exotik+DA which has been updated to run Akurate Kontrol firmware can be controlled in the same way as an Akurate Kontrol. An Exotik (non-DA) may respond to on/off commands but not volume or source if identified as a Klimax Kontrol, but this is not an officially supported feature.

3 Kiko has Aktiv speaker output, this is a separate power amplifier per speaker drive (2off driver units per Kiko speaker) giving a total of 50W per channel
4 The Sekrit DSM can be configured as bridge or single ended. This can drive, in stereo with common volume control, either 4off speakers with 33W/4R RMS power each or 2off speakers with 50W/8R RMS each.
5 For use with Basik3/Basik3-IR Room Control Units
6 One input can be configured for use with Turntable.

Line Level / Moving Magnet [Majik-factory set] / Moving Coil (Akurate-Factory set]) refer to dealer for options

7 The Sneaky DSM can be only configured as single ended. This can drive, in stereo with common volume control, either 4off speakers with 33W RMS power each,(for Bi-Amping), or 2off speakers with 33W RMS each.
8 Maximum input sample rate 96KHz (Stereo PCM)
9 Maximum output sample rate 192KHz (Stereo PCM)(However the official specification for TOSLINK/SPDIF is 96kHz so check your digital receiver can take up to 192K data stream)
11 PRE-OUT can be make POWER Amplfier input for use as additional amplifier for ExaktBoxes. Konfigurable in Konfig
12 Exakt-Link

  • Exakt-Link output are delayed by approx 45mS compared to Analogue/Toslink/SPDIF outputs.
  • When the volume control is disabled, the Exakt-link sockets are disabled
  • Exakt-Link can also be used as an input with products such as the Urika II

13 Can be configured in Konfig application to change the Default SPDIF Input a SPDIF output
14 This can change depending on the Module(s) installed in the Selekt DSM
