A
- Aktiv
- Speaker crossover type. Alternatives available from Linn Products are Passive and Exakt.
- AUSKERRY
- The first in-built major Operating System/Firmware software version for Linn DS players.
B
- Bi-Amp
- These are two amplifiers per loudspeaker. Each power amplifier drives an independent speaker drive unit within the loudspeaker. This will allow the amplifier to output to the drive unit without any interference from any other speaker. You must make sure that loudspeaker bridgeing strips are removed.
- Bi-Wire
- A single amplfier will output to the loudspeaker using 2 cables. This will reduce audio distortion that can be caused by the loudspeaker cable resistance/impedance. You must make sure that loudspeaker bridgeing strips are removed.
- BUTE
- The second major in-built Operating System/Firmware software version for Linn DS players.

- CARA
- The third major in-built Operating System/Firmware software version for Linn DS players.
- CHAKRA
- This is a Class of power Amplfier. More information HERE

- Class D

- Davaar
- The fourth and current major inbuilt Operating System/Firmware software version installed in your Linn DS/DSM. This includes features of Multi-room audio and Exakt Technology
- Drive unit
- This is a speaker drive unit within a loudspeaker. This can be a "Woofer"/Bass, Mid or treble/tweeter speaker within the loudspeaker cabinet.
- DS/DSM
- This reference to the general products type of DS or DSM.
- Linn DS: This is a Media renderer or media player.
- Linn DSM: This is a Linn DS with the addition of Multimedia inputs. Typically HDMI, Analogue, Toslink and SPDIF input(s)
- The Linn is normally replaced with its family name, e.g.Klimax, Akurate..

- EXAKT
- Exakt Technology is the Linn technology for digital audio transfer between Linn products. This allow music to be transported with no loss in quality to loudspeakers, Digital to audio convertors and from analogue sources, such as Urika-II
- EXAKTBOX
- This is an electronic crossover that provides Line-Level, (RCA 2V RMS), audio channels to directly drive loudspeaker drive units bypassing their internal crossover.
- Recent software update allows to be used in Surround channel line-level feed to directly supply Surround Audio channels.
- EXAKTBOX-I
- Same as Exaktbox above, but also has Power Amplfier outputs.
- EXAKT-ONLY
- This describes products WITHOUT any analogue audio outputs. The only outputs are EXAKT-LINK and digital outputs e.g.Akurate System Hub and Klimax Exakt DSM.
- EXAKT-LINK
- Exakt link transport is the data cable that feeds the digital audio between Linn products. T

- FALLBACK is the state of a Linn DS/DSM when it is waiting/in process of doing a software update.
- Firmware
- Firmware is the operating system of a product.

- Kazoo control software
- Linn DS/DSM control software to allow you to control the Linn DS from a PC, MacBook or Android/Apple tablet/phone.
- Kazoo server
- Kazoo Server is a UPnP Media Server to share music from your local collection and also works controlling Linn DS/DSM from Crestron and Control4
- Kontrol
- This is the Linn term for a Pre-amplifier.

- This reference to the general products type of DS or DSM.

- The name used in the configuration software to describe a Linn DS/DSM.

- Open Source Software
- OSS is software where the source code is publically available.

- Playlist
- This is the list of tracks that are queued for playback on Linn DS/DSM.
- These tracks can be reselected/replayed by using the Linn DS/DSM front panel, Infra-red remote control & control software

- Ripping is CD ripping. Extracting the digital audio from a CD and creating digital music files for each track.

- Songcast is the sharing of the Music from one room to other rooms.
- Space Optimisation
- Here the Music not the room. Space Optimisation will process your room and remove the distortion, sometimes called "boominess" from your room.

Volume offset
- This allows different external inputs on the Linn DSM to have different volume levels. A CD player may sound quite loud, but when you change to a turntable this may seem quiet when the Linn DSM is has the same volume setting. Adjust the volume offset allow you to change the effective volume level by some many steps when this input is selected.
U
- Unity Gain
- The term used in configuration software to turn OFF the voume control on an input. "What come in, goes out untouched". That is, any audio signal that comes in, is output with no volume control.
