Standard ‘passive’ loudspeaker

crossovers are driven by the audio signal from the power amplifier.  The crossover then separates the filters the audio for each drive unit.  Passive crossovers are inherently lossy and so some of the signal is effectively lost during the filtering process.

Aktiv crossovers operate at line level, the filters are optimised for each drive unit in the loudspeaker.  The Aktiv card filters the audio before each amplifier channel.  One channel of amplification is required for each drive unit in the loudspeaker.  There is no lossy passive crossover in the system anymore, a

nd therefore much more of the audio signal is delivered to the loudspeaker. The Aktiv cahhenl is also able to exert a much greater degree of control over the signal and these qualities combine to provide a significant improvement in sonic performance over standard 'passive' operation.

Your authorised Linn retailer can convert your Majik-I amplifier to Aktiv operation with the insertion of a specially designed Linn Aktiv module.
