Aktiv has now replaced by Exakt
An Aktiv or Exakt system refers to a Linn audio system where the loudspeaker’s internal passive crossover is bypassed, i.e. made Active.
- In an Aktiv system, an active crossover is used. In a Linn system, these active crossovers take the form of modules which are fitted to the amplifiers internally, or an external Aktiv Crossover, and allow the signal to be filtered immediately before the amplification stage. (these work in the pure analogue domain.)
- In an Exakt system, the active crossover is either an Exaktbox or a Selekt DSM with multiple cartridges. (These work in the digital domain.)
An Exakt system is significantly more efficient than a passive system and results in more accurate amplitude, phase, and time response. The flexibility of an Aktiv system also enables the system to be tuned to suit the room. The result of an upgrade to Exakt will be, quite simply, a breathtaking improvement in sound quality.
