Linn Remote Control Handset Operation with Linn DS

The following functionality is available on all Linn DS devices with Infra-Red (IR) controllability. If IR is not currently enabled on the Linn DS then this can be done via Linn Konfig.


Enable IR on the Linn DS

  • Open Linn Konfig.
  • Select the Linn DS.
  • Select the Configuration tab.
  • Set Handset Commands Accepted to All, Dvd or Cd depending on user requirement.



Source selection

The Linn DS/DSI can be used to select sources on your Linn connected Preamlifier. This is performed using the number keypad.

Press DVD followed by the Linn DS/DSI input number

  1. - Playlist input
  2. - Radio input
  3. - UpnpAV input
  4. - Songcast input
  5. - First external source (Analog on the Sekrit-DSI, Analog1 on the Majik DSi etc)
  6. - second external source (SPDIF on the Sekrit-DSI, Analog2 on the Majik DSi etc)
  7. - third external source (Toslink on the Sekrit-DSI, Analog3 on the Majik DSi etc)

Configure the Linn Remote Control Handset to work with the Linn DS

The Line Remote Control Handset should be configured for DVD commands or CD commands depending on user requirement.

  • Press Dvd.jpg to enable DVD commands.
  • Press Shift.jpg then Dvd.jpg to enable CD commands.

To get the Linn DS device information

  • Press Dvd.jpg to enable DVD commands.
  • Press Help.jpg to enable DS information commands.
This starts of with the IP address
Subsequent presses of the Help.jpg key gives you:
MAC Address, DS Name, DS model, software version, software updates available,
DS serial number, network gateway, DHCP address, subnet mask,
Track playing information, IP address .....

This will enable you to have basic control and configuration options by putting the DS IP address in a web-browser address bar
e.g. If you DS shows the IP address 192.168.0.27 then type in

http://192.168.0.27 into the address bar

Playlist Source

The Linn Remote Control Handset will be able to access any playlist that is currently loaded onto the Linn DS via a Linn compliant control point.

The playlist will remain loaded on the Linn DS until it is cleared via a Linn compliant control point or if the Linn DS is power cycled or the reboot command is selected from Konfig.

Ensure that the Linn Remote Control Handset is configured to work with the Linn DS ..here

Playing music from the playlist source

  • Load a playlist onto the Linn DS via a Linn compliant control point.
  • Press Subt.jpg to select the Playlist source.
  • Press Play.jpg to play music from the playlist.

Direct track selection using numerical keys

  • Load a playlist onto the Linn DS via a Linn compliant control point .
  • Press any of the numerical keys to select the corresponding track.
  • To enter a track number in double figures simply press the required numbers in succession.
  • Once a track number is entered after 2 seconds it will be selected.
  • Press Select.jpg after the track number is entered to immediately select the track.
  • PressLeft.jpgto erase the digit if the wrong number is entered.

Navigating through the playlist

  • Press Fastforward.jpg for fast search forward or Fastrewind.jpg for fast search backwards.
  • Press Skipforward.jpg for next track selection or Skipback.jpg for previous track selection.

Stopping or pausing the music

  • Press Stop.jpg to stop the music playing.
  • Press Pause.jpg to pause the music.

Radio Source

The Linn Remote Control Handset can be used to access the Radio Source through the Linn DS.

When listening to the Radio Source a good quality Internet connection is required.

By default the Linn DS presets will be set to the Linn provided Worldwide account.

Ensure that the Linn Remote Control Handset is configured to work with the Linn DS ..here

Playing audio and selecting presets from the Radio source

  • Press Zoom.jpg to select the Radio source.
  • Press any of the numerical keys to select the corresponding preset.
  • To enter a preset number in double figures simply press the required numbers in succession.
  • Once a preset number is entered after 2 seconds it will be selected.
  • Press Select.jpg after the preset number is entered to immediately select the preset.
  • PressLeft.jpgto erase the digit if the wrong number is entered.

On Device Playlist Navigation

The following functionality is available on Linn DS devices that have a front panel display. A remote control handset is required to invoke the functionality. A playlist must first be loaded to the device via a Linn compliant control point (Playlist source must be selected if available). 3rd party UpnpAv control points currently only support playlists of 1 track, so will not work (currently playlist sizes up to 1000 tracks are supported otherwise).

  • Insure playlist is loaded to device via a Linn compliant control point
  • Enter playlist navigation mode by pressing any of the navigation keys (Up, Down, Right. Left is currently reserved for future use)
  • You are presented with the Title of the current track
  • Press the Up and Down keys to preview the rest of the tracks in the playlist by Title
  • Press the Right key to toggle between Title, Artist, and Album preview
  • In Artist and Album mode, the Up and Down keys will preview the next available Artist and Album available in the playlist based on the order the tracks were loaded
  • Press the Select key (circle shaped key inside navigation arrow keys) to jump to the previewed track
  • A naviagtion icon will appear on the display (shows four arrows). If the up or down arrows are missing, you have reached the top or bottom of the playlist respectively)
  • Navigation mode will timeout after 10s of no navigation input (no new track will be selected)
  • Cancel by pressing the DISP key

  • Insure playlist is loaded to device via a Linn compliant control point
  • Select the track number you wish to play by pressing the corresponding digit key
  • For large numbers, simply press the digit keys in succession as required (digit will be reset to 0 if the value entered exceeds the maximum allowed)
  • After 2s, the track number entered will be selected (invalid entries will be ignored)
  • Press the left navigation arrow key to erase a digit if you have made a mistake
  • Press the select key (circle shaped key inside navigation arrow keys) to immediately jump to the previewed track
  • Cancel by pressing the DISP key




Fast skip using skip keys

  • Insure playlist is loaded to device via a Linn compliant control point
  • Device must be either playing or paused for skip to be invoked
  • Single press of skip keys will select the next or previous track as normal
  • Press and hold of the skip keys will preview the skip operation, and select the given track on release of the key
  • The first 15 tracks are previewed in order, at which point the preview continues to increase exponentially
  • Cancel by pressing the DISP key
