Introduction

This Space Optimisation is a web/internet based application to adjust the music played by your speakers to match the unique characteristics of your room. This is a more advanced version of Space Optimisiation than the Konfig version.

To access Linn Account Space Optimisation go to

Note: Currently for non-Exakt STEREO systems only, this will be expanded to Exakt and surround systems in the near future.

Getting started

Linn Account creation and adding/removing Linn DS/DSM from your account

The Linn Account Space Optimisation requires your Linn DS/DSM to be attached to a “Linn Account”. You can do this by using the Kazoo App:

  1. Go into the latest version of Kazoo and select Settings
  2. Select the Linn Account tab
  3. If you do not have a Linn Account then you can instantly register for one.
  4. After registration and Log-in you will see the Linn DS players on your network. ADD or REMOVE the Linn DS/DSM players from your account.

Accessing the Linn DS/DSM in your account

After adding the Linn DS/DSM players to your Linn Account:

  1. go to www.Linn.co.uk
  2. Select the Full Menu (top right) and go down to “My Account”
  3. Within the “My Account” select Manage systems.
    1. This will enter you into the System management page and “Edit Settings” or your Linn DS/DSM
    2. If you have just registered and added these to your Account it may take a couple of minutes to show you Linn DS/DSM setup. If nothing changes then try refreshing your web-browser page, (typically function key F5 or CTRL-F5 in the browser).
    3. The Space tab will not appear until you have assigned speakers to your Linn DS/DSM in the “GENERAL” tab. Note: currently Exakt systems are not currently supported by this page and you cannot assign Exakt speaker in setup.
  4. with the speakers setup you will now be able to create/update/delete/rename your Space Optimisation settings created by this application.

FAQ's

  • What can't I see or adjust the Room nodes like Space Optimisation in Konfig?
The reason these adjustements/corrections were originally allowed in Space Optimisation was to account for the often invalid assumption of a rectangular room; this assumption is no longer applied, thus removing the need to “correct” the optimisation – the optimisation is already correct! Furthermore, the new methods of adjusting an optimisation (the advanced steps) allow adjustment of the optimisation based on physical realities (for example, adjusting the absorption of a wall will affect ALL modes which bounce off this wall – compare this to the ability in Konfig to adjust individual modes, which is clearly unphysical). Customers may initially wish for the ability for manual adjustment, but Linn has adopted the new approach as it makes this process of adjustment far simpler for the customer, whilst applying adjustments in a physical manner (after all, this is a purely physical phenomenon we are trying to correct for), and so will allow the customer to make far more effective adjustments in a far shorter time.

  • How can I adjust my optimisation to suit my preferences?
Adjustment of optimisations is now done through the advanced steps: Environmental, Absorption, and Optimisation Preference. For details on the effects of these advanced steps please consult the Linn Account Space Optimisation User Guide.

  • It doesn’t sound like the optimisation has been applied to my system.
Once the optimisation has been calculated, it must be applied to your system by selecting the radio button next to its name.

  • I keep getting an error when I try and Optimise a room:
  1. The current release will only support Stereo/2channel configurations.
    1. If you have an Exakt system, this is not currently supported.
    2. If you have a Sub-woofer defined in an analogue system, this is not currently supported
  1. Go into Konfig and disable any previous Space Optimisation settings. (There may be a hidden issue not allowing the update)

  • All I see is an error message saying “Sorry, something went wrong”.
If you see this error message, press F5 or refresh the browser page. If the error persists, please click on the account logo in the top right-hand corner, click on Account Settings, and Send Activity: Start, this will record your activity for debugging purposes. Then click on the “reloading” link below the error message; we will then look into this issue

  • Why is my optimisation queued/calculating for a very long time?
Sometimes messages from the cloud do not reach the UI, causing it not to update; pressing F5 or refreshing the browser page should free this message up and correctly update the optimisation status.
However, sometimes your optimisation may in fact be sat in a queue waiting for cloud-computing resources; this queue time should however be short. Furthermore, depending on the size of your room, the reverberation time of your room, the number of drive units in your speaker set up, and whether placement optimisation is being considered (ideal and practical speaker locations provided) the calculation time may be longer than for a Konfig optimisation (for reference, calculation of an optimisation for the Linn Products Design demo room may take around 1 min, whereas for the Linn Home lounge area may take around 10 mins).
