Check Ethernet stability
If the Linn DS/DSi is not connected to the system or being granted access to your ethernet system, it will have no operation (although the Sekrit DSI & Majik DSI can be controlled by IR handset, but not play any Internet Radio get an music from the ethernet network).
Network cable check
- Power off the Linn DS/DSI
- Go to the backpanel of the Linn DS/DSI
- monitor the Ethernet socket lights and power on the Linn DS/DSI
- watch the Ethernet socket lights for approx 30 seconds,
- if either of these socket lights flash you have a live ethernet connection. goto the DHCP Server check below
- if none of these lights flash, suspect that you have network connection fault
Network DHCP server check
- Power off the Linn DS/DSI again
- Now check the Linn DS/DSI front display and power on the Linn DS/DSI
- Linn DS/DSI ;
- On the Sneaky-DS
- Check the front panel Linn symbol power indicator light/LED
- This should flash for between 5-30seconds, then come on permanently.
- On the Sekrit-DSI
- Check the front panel STBY light/LED
- This should flash for between 5-30seconds, then extinquish and DHCP light should illuminate
- On the remaining Linn DS/DSI products
- Check the front panel display for a dot in the centre of the display
- This should flash for between 5-30seconds, then be replaced by either the Standby display or source name
- If on any of these Linn DS/DSI products, this light/dot keeps on flashing it is waiting to be given a network address from your Router/DHCP server.
- The Linn DS/DSI knows that the network is alive, (as with the previous test), so it is asking for an address so that it can enter your network, but it is not being provided with one. The DS/DSI will continuously ask, (flashing dot), until this happens. Suspect that your DHCP server/Router is not switched on or it has run out of addresses to give to network devices.
- DHCP Server check
Note:
- if the Linn DS/DSI does not have a live network connection, (none of the Ethernet socket lights flash), the front panel flashing light/dot will stop flashing after between 5-30seconds and find out that no ethernet exists and stop requesting a network address.
- The Linn DS/DSI will show a cross on its display to show that it has no address. This is allows the Linn DS/DSI products to select source and perform volume controls via their front panel/IR handset, but nothing else]
- If this always happens after a power outage/power glitch, you probably have your Linn DS/DSI plugged directly into a DHCP Server/Router. After a power glitch, the DHCP server/Router can take 1-2mins to boot up and not have any network connection. The Linn DS/DSI will have booted up by this time and found that there is no live network connection and gone to "No Network mode".
- Solution: The soution is to add a Network switch between the Linn DS/DSI and DHCP Server/Router. The switch will have a fast startup/recovery time and show a live network connection after a few seconds, this will then keep the Linn DS/DSI continuously requesting a DHCP address and subsequently wait for the DHCP Server/Router to come alive.
Network connection fault solutions
- Loose network cable connecting the Linn DS/DSI to network device
- Unplug and replug these connectors back into their sockets
- Faulty network cable
- Replace the CAT-5 ethernet cable
- Network device, (switch, Router, homeplug), powered off
- reconnect Mains and power connector to the network device
Network DHCP server/Router solutions
- No connection to DHCP server/Router
- Suspect that your Linn DS/DSI is connected to another ethernet device (Switch, Homeplug), to the DHCP server/Router. Check the ethernet cables are connected to the correct network sockets on these devices and the DHCP server/Router is powered on
- There may not be any spare network addresses to connect any other devices to the network
- Power Off the DHCP Server and rest of system as per System has stopped working for a minimum of 5minutes. Then switch everything on in the sequence stated in System has stopped working
- There may be no fault with the DHCP Server/Router
- If your Linn DS/DSI can get operate after being switched off, wait a few seconds, switch on, this may be due to a power glitch and the DHCP Server/Router is taking longer to recover than the Linn DS/DSI.
- Solution: The soution is to add a Network switch between the Linn DS/DSI and DHCP Server/Router. The switch will have a fast startup/recovery time and show a live network connection after a few seconds, this will then keep the Linn DS/DSI continuously requesting a DHCP address and subsequently wait for the DHCP Server/Router to come alive.
